#TuesdayTruth Psalms 145:17-18

Psalms 145:17-18

“The LORD is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”

Immanuel- “God with us.”

Many times in scripture, God promises to be near to His people, to all who call on Him. We know if He says it, it is true.

  • Joshua 1:9 “ Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

  • Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”

  • Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

  • James 4:8 “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”

The main thing that stood out to me from our last “Worship and WOD” devotional was the simple statement- “maybe the favor of God is just God being with us.” This got me thinking…about the difference in seeking something FROM HIM versus SEEKING HIM.

Consider it. How often do we say we are seeking God’s favor for this or that? We pray for that situation that is so heavy on our hearts to be resolved, for that important relationship to be mended, for that new job to be ours, etc. However, if you really think about it- even if that which we so deeply want does not turn out as we desired, BUT God is with us, we are still profoundly rich because of Him.

Now, I am absolutely not discouraging us from bringing everything to God in prayer. In fact, just the opposite; it is important to talk with Him about it all- from the most mundane to the big, important things (after all, that’s how we talk to our closest friends). I am simply pointing out that it is important to make sure that our HOPE is in Him and not in any of the “things” in our day to day in this temporary world.

His presence, Immanuel “God with us”, to be near to Him, to know Him better, to be more like Him- that is what we truly seek. Our hope is in Him and so we are already assured the victory. What more could we want or need than to have God with us?

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending your son to this earth, to be “God with us.” Thank you for the simple, but life-changing, knowledge that you are with us, that you will never leave us or forsake us. Thank you for the way that your favor rests on our lives, by you simply being near to us. Our hope is in you and you alone.

We love you Father, Amen.
