#TuesdayTruth Hebrews 4:15-16
Hebrews 4:15-16
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
If you are anything like me, sometimes it can feel like God is far away, or maybe even detached from what I am going through, and what I am feeling. However, nothing could be further from the truth. This scripture tells us that Jesus (referred to here as “a high priest”) was tempted in every way, like us. This is not a symbolic story, but a party of history- He lived life. He walked this earth. He had family and friends. He obviously had struggles.
Yet, He was able to live a perfect life. I have lived enough life to have made MANY mistakes- perfection was out the window long ago.
I am so encouraged by these verses. Even in the midst of my struggles, my temptations, my failures, I can come boldly for grace and mercy from Him in my time of need. He does not say that I can only approach Him if I have my life all together or if I have a “winning” success : sin ratio for that moment in life. And how thankful are we for that!? Instead, I can come to Him when I feel like I am a mess. I can come to Him with my fears. I can honestly tell my Heavenly Father what is on my heart and what challenges I am facing, and even better, I can ask Him for help.
When we come to Him, we do not come to the throne- the throne of GRACE- afraid, cowering, fearful. No! We can come boldly, CONFIDENTLY, to our Father in times when we need mercy. Our God is always available to us, no matter the time or situation. What a God we serve!
Heavenly Father,
Thank you that we can rest assured, knowing that you know exactly how if feels to be fully human- you know our struggles, our feelings, our emotions, our desires. Thank you, even more, for your Son setting the perfect example for us of how to navigate all these. Last, and most, thank you that we can come to you confidently and expectant for your mercy and grace.
We love You Father, Amen.
