#TuesdayTruth Colossians 3:2

Colossians 3:2

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

How incredible is the mind that God gave us? How intricate and complex?

I do not know about you, but my mind has a tendency to kick into “overdrive,” especially if I am feeling stressed or worried. This wonderful tool that God has given me, can actually be a source of angst when it jumps from situation to situation, possibility to possibility, circumstance to circumstance. This happens when I have my mind on things here on this physical earth.

We use the term “mind games” sometimes. The battle of the mind is no game, though. We are told in Scripture to be “transformed by the renewing” of our minds (Romans 12:2). We are also told that “the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).

When we find ourselves in a situation where our minds are not peaceful, we need only to take a cue from this seemingly simple verse and re-align our thinking to thoughts of eternity. The thing is, when we focus on the eternal, so many of these situations/possibilities/circumstances lose their power over us.

What really matters when we have an “eternal focus?” Loving God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind, and loving those around us as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39 and Mark 12:30-31). Honestly, if we bring everything “back to center” and remember this truth, those worries of this world fade away.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for reminding us where our focus should be. Thank you for the hope of eternity with you, and that this “hope does not put us to shame,” because of You and Your Son. Thank You for bringing us peace, even in times of trouble; for calm, even in life’s storms; for silence and rest when we need it most.

We love You Father, Amen.
