#TuesdayTruth Micah 7:18-19
Micah 7:18-19
“Who is a God like you,
who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever
but delight to show mercy.
You will again have compassion on us;
you will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”
Have you ever spent time considering what we truly “deserve” as fallible, sinful, and at times, hard-hearted humans? The Bible tells us that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
I do not often spend time dwelling on this, but with the Easter holiday having just passed, I spent some time considering the weight of what Jesus did for us on the cross. As “Holy Week” progressed, I considered how it began as Jesus entered Jerusalem to demonstrations of respect and shouts of excitement about His reign (such a HIGH high). Then, how it ended with Him- our perfect Savior- betrayed, battered, ridiculed, bruised, scorned, and more, as He hung on a cross for sins that He did not commit (such a LOW low).
This is what I deserve. This is what He took on for me. I can not comprehend a love that deep and that pure. So, when I read in the passage above that our God DELIGHTS to show mercy and will throw my iniquities into the sea (rather than giving me what I truly deserve), I am completely undone. I do not understand it, but I believe it to be true. I know our God is good, because He first loved me in such an extravagant way.
This is the HOPE that we have, thanks to our perfect Savior and His PERFECT love.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for delighting in showing us mercy. Father, we need it SO desperately. We are hopeless and lost without You. However, because of You, we are FULL of hope, and of joy. Thank You for the unimaginable grace that You extend to us. Thank You for giving us more chances than we deserve. Thank You for Your compassion.
We love You Father, Amen.
