#TuesdayTruth Psalms 37:23-24

Psalms 37:23-24

“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”

I love the images that these verses bring to my mind. Sometimes going through this life feels like traveling along uncertain, rocky, difficult, maybe even muddy, terrain. The path certainly is not always smooth and easy. Sometimes we are not even sure where to put our foot down for the next step.

This is one of those passages that helps us to “take heart.” It is a beautiful reminder that the God of the universe is with us, even along those difficult roads. He is the one that “firms up” our steps as we “delight” in Him. For, if our joy is truly in Him and what He has already done for us, there is nothing on this earth that can steal that joy.

We must remind ourselves every day (even, multiple times in a day) that this world is not our home, that we were bought with a high price, that we have the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us, that our God was the same yesterday/today/forever, and that, one day, we will be with Him in heaven. Consider Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Another thing that jumps off the page at me here in this passage is the declaration that though the one who delights in Him may stumble (haven’t we all?!), he/she WILL NOT FALL. And why is that? Well, because “the LORD upholds him with his hand.” Wow! What else do we need other than that beautiful blessed assurance?!

Heavenly Father,

We thank you for firming up our steps as we travel along in this life. Thank you that there is nothing that can steal our joy, so long as it is truly in you. Thank you for the assurance that though we may stumble (and you know that we do), we will not fall, all because of you.

We love you Father,

Amen.
