#TuesdayTruth Matthew 7:24-25

Matthew 7:24-25

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

One of the most crucial things to a safe, sturdy, home is the foundation. A home can be truly beautiful. The ceilings can be vaulted. The floor plan can be open. The windows can let in all the natural light. The garage can fit multiple cars. However, none of that matters if the foundation is not solid.

In this Scripture, Jesus gives his followers the way to sustain the “storms” of life. Simply put, we are told to read what He taught and use it.

If you have ever wondered why it is so important to read the Bible, this is not the only reason, but a good one. The time to become acquainted with God’s word- to read it, to study it, to internalize it and to make it a part of our inner workings- is BEFORE the storm.

Personally, I know that there are storms in life. Most of us do. Most of us have seen a storm or two, and/or have even lived through some of those ourselves. The question is not, “Will we have hard times in this life?”

Hard times are a given. What is not a given, is how we will respond to those hard times. Will our “house” stand, or will it be washed away? We must prepare for the storms by being built on the solid foundation that is God’s word.

During the “Sermon on the Mount" Jesus tells us (among other things):

  • Blessed are the poor in spirit, are those who mourn, are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, are the merciful, are the pure in heart, are the peacemakers, are those persecuted because of righteousness.

  • We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are made to shine.

  • That He is the fulfillment of the law.

  • We are to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us.

  • That the posture of our heart matters more than any “good” deed (for example- giving, prayer, fasting).

  • How to pray.

  • We gain nothing with worry. Our heavenly Father cares for us so deeply and He knows our needs.

  • We are not to judge those around us.

These are just a few of His wisdom-filled teachings that can help us build our foundation. The encouragement for this week is as follows: Get to know the Father. Read His word. Build your foundation on the solid rock.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your word. Thank you for giving us your wisdom, through the teachings of Christ. Thank you for assuring us that no matter the storms that may come in this life, we can have a “foundation on the rock” because of you.

We love You Father, Amen.
