#TuesdayTruth - Be still- Psalms 46:1-11

Psalms 46:1- 11

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth.

He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth.

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’

The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

(Bold added for emphasis)

Be still. As a rule, most of us are not all that great at this. We live in busy times. It is easy to get in a pattern where we jump from task to task, from place to place, from idea to idea, without stopping from sun-up to sundown.

It is important, though, to take time to stop, to be still, and to be reminded that He is “our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble,” to remember that “The LORD Almighty is with us.” God knew that we would need to make time to not only stop and take time away from the rushing, but to just be still and know who HE is.

How much easier is it to be still and to rest when we remember that the God of this universe is for us? He has not left us and He will never forsake us. We have all experienced “valleys” in life or seasons of loss, but our circumstances do not dictate the character of God. He was good. He is good. He always will be good.

So, I extend another challenge in this Tuesday Truth, to myself and to each of you:

-Each morning for the next 7 days, take 15 minutes to just be still. Give yourself at least this small sliver of time and space to not be returning a text/call, looking something up, completing household tasks or running out the door. In this time, you might re-read the scripture here or you might read another, and remind yourself that “the Lord Almighty” is just that- “the Most High.” Talk with Him about anything on your heart. I think you will be surprised the effect this small portion of time can have on your whole day.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for being our “ever-present help.” What a comfort it is to know that! We struggle with busy schedules, with being on the go, but please help us to make time to be still and to always remember that you are the “Almighty.” Thank you for being our “fortress.” We can truly rest in that knowledge.

We love You Father, Amen.
