#TuesdayTruth Hebrews 12:11

Hebrews 12:11

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

How many of us hear of something that we know will be difficult and painful and eagerly exclaim, “Sign me up!?” I would guess, not many. It’s part of human nature to choose the path of least resistance. On the contrary, all want some particular results, though.

Discipline produces. This verse says it right here.  It also reminds us that discipline is not easy. It’s difficult,  and at times “painful” even, but the outcome is so worth it.

Fitness is a great analogy here. Having the discipline to stick to any fitness regimen is not easy. It’s challenging. It can hurt. I t can require that you give up other things. If you do stick to it, though, you will see the reward.

In this passage, we are talking about a different type of discipline. Earlier in this same chapter of Hebrews, verse 7 says “Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?” I do not know about you, but I want God to treat me as His daughter. I also deeply want the “harvest of righteousness and peace” produced by His discipline.

We all crave peace. Let’s lock into the discipline that produces it. For we know that we have a good Father, whose discipline is for our good.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for treating us as your children. Thank you for your discipline. Thank you for the harvest that it produces. Thank you for your peace.

We love You Father, Amen.
