Tuesday Truth Psalms 63:3
Psalms 63:3
“Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.”
We all have a lot going on in our day to day lives. We have full schedules, appointments, and responsibilities at work and home; in general, we have a lot of “to-dos.” Then, there are also the things that we want to do. What I am getting at is- most of us live very busy lives.
I would like to believe that we are not only busy in our daily lives, but we also have enjoyment. We celebrate occasional successes at work. We get to go to the gym, or for a walk or run, and move our bodies. We behold beautiful works of art. We read books. We enjoy delicious meals. We laugh with friends/family.
The “pre-text” for Psalms 63 says that David wrote this “when he was in the Desert of Judah.” While we may consider our schedules full and sometimes challenging, most of us have not experienced isolation in a desert, possibly running/hiding for our lives. However, maybe you have felt or feel lonely now. Let me remind you to fix your eyes on what is unseen - the incomparable love of Christ. Only through His love can we ever see that this life no matter the season pales in comparison to even one day with our Father in Heaven.
Yet, even IN this context (alone, in the desert), David “seeks” the Lord; he “longs” for God. He knows that the Lord’s love really is better than life, and just wants to praise Him.
When we try and shift our perspective to an eternal perspective, what really matters?
Loving our Heavenly Father with all of our hearts, souls and minds.
Loving those around us as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40).
In this life, we do the work He sets before us until he calls us home, with the ultimate goal of making heaven crowded (imagine that day- when we all sit at His feet and praise Him together)! I can’t wait.
But for now, no matter what life holds for us in this season, we REST as we remember that His love is better than life.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your love. It truly is better than life. Thank you that this world/this life is not all there is for those who put their trust in You. Thank you for the hope of things to come. We long for the day that we get to praise you and worship at your feet in Heaven.
We love you,
Amen
