#TuesdayTruth Galatians 5:14

Galatians 5:14

“For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

We can do all the “nice” things, be all the “best” places, say all the “right” things, and be around all the most well-known people…but…if we do not have love, we have nothing. It says it right here in this scripture- the fulfillment of the ENTIRE law hinges on our ability to follow this one rule (what we call “the golden rule”).

Personally, I would never let myself remain cold if I had a jacket to wear or a blanket to cuddle up in. I would never remain hungry if I had food to eat or thirsty if I had access to clean drinking water. I would never choose to remain lonely if I had friends/family to be around. My body and my spirit tell me what I need and when I need it (now, whether I listen is a whole other conversation for another time).

So, we know how to care for and love others, because we know how to take care of ourselves. In fact, as 1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.” Christ showed us true, sacrificial love when He was here on this earth. Now, we just have to take a cue from Him and take from the instincts our Heavenly Father gave us, and follow this one “simple” rule.

Imagine what a wonderful world we would live in if we all truly followed this one rule!

Heavenly Father,

Thank you that the command you give is so straight-forward. You know we need simple, and you come through big time. Please give us the ability to see people the way you see them, and the capacity to love others as you would. Thank you for first loving us, and showing us how to love others well. If it were not for your love, we would be truly hopeless.

We love you Father, Amen.
