#TuesdayTruth 1 John 4:4

I John 4:4

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

What do we do when we feel overwhelmed by the state of the world we live in? What do we think? Where do we turn?

This particular verse is so uplifting, reminding us first where we are from - “From God, our Father.” Second, we, through God, have already overcome. The best part about it all is that our ability to overcome, and avoid being overwhelmed is all due to our heavenly Father who has made our hearts His home. It is nothing of ourselves, but instead, all through Him.

We can live each day knowing that no matter what emotional or spiritual battle we face, “the One in us” is greater than anything else we will see in this world. There should be confidence rising in us with this type of knowledge - a blessed assurance.

Jesus did a great job preparing us for the fact that, in this world, we will have trouble (Jn. 16:33). Still, in the same breath, He, Himself reminds us that we are to “be of good cheer.” Why? Because our Lord and Savior has already overcome the world. This is the victory we have in Christ and enough to give all of our praise.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you that Your Spirit in us is greater than the one in the world. Thank you that we can live in the blessed assurance that You have overcome the world. We have no reason to fear. We are free. Thank you for that peace and freedom.

We love You Father, Amen.
