#TuesdayTruth Psalm 91

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you make the Most High your dwelling- even the Lord, who is my refuge- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

You will tread upon the lion and the serpent.

‘Because he loves me,’ says the Lord, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.’ “

These are strange times we are living in- truly historic times. When we look around, it is difficult to know what to do or even what to think. Thank goodness for Biblical truths that can set us free from fear, worry, and anxiety. That is not our heritage. We have “power, love and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Psalm 91 lays it out for us and provides comfort to our weary souls:

  • If we simply trust in God, our Father, He will be our refuge, our fortress. “Refuge” is defined as “a place of shelter, protection, or safety” (Dictionary.com). Oh, how we long to feel sheltered, protected and safe!

  • Well, here it is- He covers us with His feathers, with His wings. His faithfulness is our defense. The story of all of history from the beginning of time is God’s faithfulness- over and over and over again, He has shown Himself faithful. There is truly nothing to fear.

  • There are angels that He can send to minister to us, to guard us and to protect us, from any problem big or small.

Friend, let me encourage you in these uncertain times. There is hope for tomorrow, because our hope is not on anything here on this earth. Our hope is in the one who has shown Himself faithful time and again. So, let us put our trust in Him who sustains us ; Him who has given us “power, love and a sound mind” by his Spirit.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the protection that is promised in Psalm 91. Thank you that we can REST in your shadow. Thank you for covering us with your feathers, under your wing. Thank you for sending angels to guard this community. Thank you that we have no reason to fear, as long as we keep our focus on you, our loving Heavenly Father.

We love you Father, Amen.
