#TuesdayTruth 2 Corinthians 11:30, 12:9-10

2 Corinthians 11:30, 12:9-10

“If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.

But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Weakness. I know about weakness. I know about slip-ups, messes, failures, and the shame that comes along with those. I’m guessing that most everyone can relate.

That is why I LOVE these verses so much. The freedom that is expressed here is immense. Think about it. It is turning the whole idea of vulnerability (or “weakness”) on its head. We are BRAGGING about our weakness, because it gives space to “show off” our God’s power.

The reason I see such freedom here is the opportunity this invites:

  • Someone wants to bring up your past, your shame? You can respond, “Yes, and my God knew all that (and more) about me and still left the 99, to come after me. His prodigal daughter was literally at the lowest point she could be, having made ALL the wrong choices, and as He saw me approaching Him, He came running to meet me. He sent His perfect Son to earth, as a sacrifice for all, for me, the worst of sinners.”

  • Someone wants to point out the struggles you have in your walk with Christ? You can respond, “Yes, and guess what? His power, His strength, is being perfected in my weakness. I am proud to be a ‘work-in-progress’ as I strive to be more like Him.”

What hold does shame regarding our weakness have on us, His children? The answer is absolutely none. We are free.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you that your power is made perfect in our weakness. Thank you for the realization that Christ’s power does not rely on my strength. Thank you for the blessed assurance we find as we read your word. Thank you for your perfect strength.

We love you Father, Amen.
