#TuesdayTruth John 10

John 10: 2-5, 10-11, 14-15, 27-30

““...and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

“…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.”

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.””

There is just too much goodness in this passage to pick only 1 verse for this week.  I do not particularly like to cut and piece together verses, but I pray that the message is clear and that you get exactly what God has for you from this.

When I read John 10, I am struck by how God uses something here on earth to help us understand how He works, and our relationship with Him- something as simple as the relationship between sheep and their shepherd. I have several prayers in my heart for us as a community as I read…

  1. I pray that our lives would mirror verses 2-5 and 27-30.  I pray that we would clearly know His voice and follow Him all of our days, just as sheep with the shepherd.

  2. I pray that we would know all the fullness that Jesus wants us to have in life. This scripture tells us that He did not come to this earth in order to allow us to simply survive. He literally laid down his life for us to have abundant life.

  3. I thank God that we have the opportunity for Jesus to know us and for us to know Him (not know of Him, but KNOW HIM).  Because we know Him, we also know the Father. That’s what it’s all about- knowing Him more and more, building relationship with Him (for when that happens, then we truly know His voice).

  4. One more time, because I need the repetition and you might also.

We listen to His voice.  We know His voice and we know Him.  We follow Him and nothing can ever take us from Him.

    Nothing.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for using examples of things that we can see here on earth to help us understand your love for us, things like sheep and shepherds.  Thank you that we can hear your voice, that we can know your voice and that we can know you.  Thank you that NOTHING can snatch me out of your hand, because you are the Good Shepherd.

We love you, Father. Amen.
