#Tuesday Truth Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

I would guess that at some point most, if not all, of us have heard (or even said) “Follow your heart” or “Go with your gut.” I understand the sentiment. However, this Scripture shifts that perspective significantly.

We are actually instructed NOT to try to figure things out by our own means (or with our “own understanding”) and instead, trust in the Lord with all our hearts. The world might tell you to follow your heart. However, later, in Jeremiah 17:9 we read, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.”

When you think about it, is not the way God intended SO MUCH BETTER anyway? I do not know about you, but by this point in my life, I am quite certain that I do not have it all figured out. I do not have all (or even many) of the answers. More often than not, my prayer is similar to 2 Chronicles 20: 12 “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

What an encouraging thought- if I trust in Him and submit to Him, He will direct my path. He is a good, good Father. Of course, I can trust the path on which He sends me.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for your guidance. Thank you that we can trust in You- to guide us along Your path, to guard us from harm, and to direct our steps.

We love you,

Amen.
